Since the founding of the Junior Red Cross in 1917, American youth and the Red Cross have been partners in making a difference in our local communities and touching lives around the world. Today, the involvement of young people is more important than ever with 30 percent of all volunteers nationally being under the age of 24.

To carry on this tradition, the Clinton County Youth Leadership Council got off the ground in June 2005.

Junior high and high school students meet together to learn about disaster preparedness, international humanitarian relief, health and safety, and blood services. In addition, students learn skills in public speaking, conducting meetings and organizing special events by participating in service learning opportunities.

Currently, there are 12 youth participating in a variety of activities including raising money for measles vaccinations in Africa, collecting books to build libraries in Belize, conducting blood drives, supplying personal hygiene kits and participating in local disaster relief.

If you are between the ages of 11 and 18 years of age, we would love to have you on the Youth Leadership Council. Call (618) 594-8261 for more information.

The Mission of the American Red Cross

"The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by
volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and help people
prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through services that are consistent with its congressional charter and the principles of the International Red Cross Movement."

The major source of funding for any Red Cross chapter is private donations

So please remember to give to your local American Red Cross.
